CHIVIDO2024: Amid highs, lows, devastating moments, Davido keeps promise to Chioma

Six years and about two months after making a sensitive promise, Superstar Nigerian Music star and songwriter David Adeleke, fondly and professionally known by his stage name Davido, has finally proved himself to be “a man of his word” by fulfilling his promise to his partner, now wife, Chioma Rowland.

On April 30, 2018, Davido released a music track titled “Assurance,” which many fans considered just a normal love song but meant a lot to the singer. Davido promised to give Chioma a “lifetime insurance,” assuring her of a lifetime marital contract.

This promise has survived the highs and lows over the years. 

Within the space of the six-year vow, many developments and events ensued, making the knot almost impossible to tie. These developments and devastating moments have shaped opinions on social media, but Davido seems focused on his marital goal with his partner.

CHIVIDO’24: The D-Day

On Tuesday, June 25, a day considered a working day, Davido shut down part of Lagos State to hold an event that can arguably be considered the “event of the Year” so far.

The buzz started when celebrity entertainment blogger Stella Dimokokorkus broke the news about the marriage plan. This development left netizens with questions and curiosity about the veracity of the claim until Davido himself made the marriage plan public on his social media page.

He had tagged the marriage “CHIVIDO 2024,” sharing pre-wedding photos, videos, and unforgettable moments, setting the internet ablaze as fans anticipated the D-Day.

The event was the talk of the town, as the hall was filled to the brim with numerous dignitaries, top political figures, and high-class personalities, including ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Governor Makinde of Oyo State, Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Abiodun of Ogun, Adeleke of Osun, Obaseki of Edo, Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Soun of Ogbomoso, Seyi Tinubu, and a host of many others.

This writer can confirm that after the long-anticipated wedding, Davido and his newly wedded wife left the venue together. Davido also gifted his bride a new Mercedes G-Wagon, which came just a week after he revealed his intention to walk down the aisle with Chioma.

Book to Bloom: How the Love Story Began

Davido met Chioma 11 years ago while they were both studying at Babcock University, Ogun State. Davido had been admitted to study music, while Chioma pursued a degree in economics.

Davido and Chioma identified as friends until the Ede-born musician professed his love in 2017. He then publicly sealed it by releasing the “Chioma My Lover” Assurance track, where he not only extolled her virtues but also convinced her to be a vixen in the music video.

Their relationship had waxed stronger, as it would be recalled that the singer initially proposed to her. There was a plan for a wedding in July 2020, but it was later canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic that ravaged Nigeria and the world that year.

Chioma: The Third Babymama

Chioma happened to be Davido’s third child’s mother. Sophia Momodu is the mother of Davido’s first child, Imade Adeleke, born in 2015. She is a niece of popular Nigerian journalist Dele Momodu. Sophia and Davido had a brief relationship that started in 2013 but subsequently became very controversial. Davido had approached the court to seek full custody of the child.

Amanda is another babymama and the mother of his look-alike child, Hailey. Hailey was also born in 2015 and is his third child. She is also US-based.

Peruzzi’s Allegation

Talented Nigerian singer/songwriter Tobechukwu Victor Okoh, popularly known as Peruzzi, was accused in 2021 of having sexual affairs with Chioma.

This is one of the significant events that might have ruined the promise. But Peruzzi, in his reaction to the allegation that made rounds on the internet, noted that he would not do such to the wife of the man who helped him.

“Someone said I had sex with the wife of the man who helped me. Do you know how crazy that is? Even if you hate me, what did Davido do to you? So right now, I am careful of every pin that drops near me," he told Chude Jideonwo.

Rumored Separation

There was a rumored separation between Davido and Chioma in 2021 following the development that Davido had another babymama.

Chef Chi dramatically deleted all the pictures of her child, Ifeanyi’s daddy, Davido, from her Instagram page, leaving only one displaying the DMW boss with their son on Friday, April 2, 2021.

This came amidst speculations that the relationship between the couple was no longer as rosy as it used to be. Recall that in 2020, the duo had ‘unfollowed’ each other on Instagram, which generated a whirlwind of reactions. However, they later resumed following each other.

Davido had been rumored to be in a relationship with Yafai, and different pictures of the two of them together went viral on the Internet. The model was said to have spent the Christmas and New Year holidays with Davido in Nigeria and Ghana. The duo was also seen holding hands at a beach house sometime in February. They later reunited to continue their love journey.

Anita Brown and the Pregnancy Bump

The relationship between Davido and Chioma got a major shake when Anita Brown, the alleged pregnant side chick of the music star, made headlines by accusing the singer of impregnating her and sharing their chats to back up her claims.

The self-acclaimed US entrepreneur later announced that she wasn’t pregnant and is very active in New York. She added that she got what she wanted from the singer, which was a million followers on Instagram and free publicity.

A US-based model and OnlyFans account owner, Bonita Maria, shared the video, which amassed massive reactions from fans and netizens. The video has since become an instrument used by social media users when trolling Davido.

Ifeanyi’s Demise and the Changed Story

Davido seems to have become born again and turned a new leaf after the sad news of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke’s demise.

Davido and Chioma welcomed Ifeanyi on October 20, 2019, in Atlanta. The three-year-old died after drowning in a swimming pool on November 1, 2022.

His death in Davido’s Banana Island residence was indeed a tragic accident, prompting Davido to take steps back following the tragedy.

Davido and Chioma’s relationship soared stronger after the loss, and the duo later welcomed a set of twins in the first week of October 2023, a development that brought hope to the family and a dashing smile on the faces of friends and well-wishers.
