Ijesa North Diaspora Calls for Electoral Accountability in Oriade/Obokun

Ultimately, the greatest power to reshape Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency rests with the people.

Electoral mandates are not permanent entitlements, political inheritances, or personal rewards. They are temporary responsibilities entrusted to individuals by voters.

Those who seek public office must understand that the people have every right to demand explanations for unfulfilled promises, abandoned projects, poor representation, and years of unmet expectations.

Elections must not become occasions for politicians to return with fresh promises, distribute temporary relief materials, or commission last-minute projects without accounting for their years in office.

Constituents deserve to examine records, question performance, demand transparency, and make informed decisions based on verifiable achievements.

No political office holder should consider himself or herself beyond scrutiny. No individual should assume that political loyalty, party affiliation, financial influence, or longstanding political connections can replace effective representation.

The people must ask difficult but necessary questions:

  • What has changed in our communities?
  • Which projects have been completed?
  • What opportunities have been created for our young people?
  • How accessible has our representation been?
  • What concrete improvements can residents point to in their daily lives?

These questions should not be considered acts of political disloyalty. They are legitimate demands in a democracy.

The ballot box must never be a rubber stamp for political entitlement.

It must remain a platform through which citizens evaluate performance and exercise their constitutional right to choose their representatives.

As the constituency looks towards future electoral contests, every aspirant and incumbent should be prepared to present a clear record of service, a credible development agenda, and measurable commitments to the people.

Oriade/Obokun cannot afford another cycle in which political ambition takes precedence over community development.

The people deserve to make their electoral choices freely, independently, and on the strength of credible information.
