The Osun State Chapter of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) has expressed grave concern over the prolonged inactivity of the Rent Tribunal in the state, calling upon the government to act swiftly to reestablish this crucial institution.
In a letter signed by its Chairman, Emmanuel Olowu, the CDHR highlighted the detrimental impact of the tribunal's closure on landlords, tenants, and the state's overall rental landscape.
The absence of a functional Rent Tribunal has left citizens without a designated platform to address and resolve tenancy-related disputes, leading to a surge in unresolved rental issues and escalating tensions between landlords and tenants.
The CDHR emphasized that the protracted closure of the tribunal has not only strained the rental ecosystem but has also placed unnecessary burdens on the judicial system and wasted state resources.
The continued payment of salaries to redundant tribunal staff and the reduction in internally generated revenue underscore the urgent need for the tribunal's revival.

To address these concerns and restore stability to the rental market, the CDHR urged the Osun State government to prioritize the immediate reestablishment of the Rent Tribunal.
This timely action would not only alleviate the plight of landlords and tenants but also promote a fair and transparent environment for resolving tenancy disputes, ultimately fostering a more harmonious and balanced rental ecosystem in Osun State.
